In the event of a fire, weather disaster, or theft, your landlord’s policy most likely does not cover loss of your personal belongings. I highly recommend that my clients purchase renter’s insurance. The policy’s typically cost from $75-150 a year, depending on the requested coverage. $10-15 a month is a a good investment when you take into account the cost of replacing books, cds, tvs, electronics, and clothing, among other items that could be damaged. Here is some further information on renter’s insurance.
